PERSONA
INTELLIGENT; FASTIDIOUS
Khaalida, like many Lunari, has dedicated herself to the pursuit of knowledge at any cost, reading every tome, scroll, and penned page ever given to her. Every day she seeks to learn something new about the world and about herself, hoping that it will all eventually aid her in her desire to become as strong as she possibly can. She is observant and quick to correct people in a way that borders on pedantic and rude. Unfortunately, Khaalida does not care if she is either of those things because, in the end, she is right, and that's all that matters.

RESCOURCEFUL; SELFISH
Khaalida makes good use of everything and everyone around her, finding only those that benefit her and keeping them close for as long as needed. It is not beyond her to use underhanded tactics to get what she wants, especially when it comes to artifacts and other things that might make her stronger. Being able to manipulate shadows - including those belonging to others, much to their displeasure - allows her to sneak her way through many situations, as well as leave her companions without aid should she find them a better distraction than boon in a particular situation. If pressed about the latter, she will always say that she was confident in their ability to keep themselves alive - and the fact that they are there to complain tells her that she was correct.

DISTANT; LONELY
Well aware of her coldness and callousness, Khaalida often internally struggles with the knowledge that her own selfish desires tend to get people hurt. It is precisely why she does her best to not get too close - distancing herself even from her long time friend Silvyrs because she fears she will only cause him harm or not live up to the standards of friendship he desires of her. All of which ultimately leaves her alone - perhaps not in the literal sense most of the time, but most certainly emotionally. Attempting to be kinder to those she cares about often makes her feel embarrassed and uncomfortable, and she will usually retreat into herself not long after the attempt is made.
HISTORY
The world of Valsheria is vast and inhabited by a variety of creatures. The majority of the population is human, but amongst them live plenty of other, more fantastical creatures like elves, orcs, dwarves, and likely any other fantasy creature you can imagine.

It was not always like that however. Thousands of years before Khaalida's birth, and the nine centuries of life she has lived to this point, there were only three entities on the mostly barren mass of rock that would be Valsheria; the dragon mother Itsamitsia, her brother Korrahk, and the fae Precina.

Itsamitsia and Korrahks visions and plans for the world they inhabited were vastly different, and they fought for hundreds of years until Precina finally joined in to assist the dragon mother, wanting the warring to end for her own sake. The two of them sealed Korrahk away into a mirror dimension of the world, allowing him to see what he could not have, and rot alone and angry for the rest of time.

Without Korrahk intervening, Itsamitsia and Precina began to form the world properly; creating mountains, oceans, plains, etc until Precina grew bored, claimed a bit of land for herself, and essentially told the dragon mother the rest was up to her. Not wanting to be alone in this endeavor further, Itsamitsia made two more dragons, the gold dragon Korinthal, and the other known to historians as the Black Wyrm. With the same powers of creation as their mother, they began to create more dragons, and from them even more, and so on and so forth until the dragonkin inhabited the lands.

Unsurprisingly, territory wars were not uncommon amongst the dragonkin, and they would constantly fight amongst themselves. To this end, the dragonkin would craft their own creatures - various servants that could be used to further claim land for themselves. Here is where the variety of the races began - with dragons creating humans, elves, bird like creatures called diarosians, and many many others that they could use as slave labor and warriors.

Eventually, even they too would begin to fight among themselves, and at this point the poor dragon mother had had enough. She attempted to parley peace between her children, but they were too far gone and unwilling to listen. Watching them fight and kill one another - and eventually, seeing their crafted 'servants' rising up to take them down further - would eventually lead to her death. Wherein she laid down in a plain to the west, and perished, stricken with grief.

From the fallen dragons bones would sprout a tree, and from that thousands more, creating a vast forest surrounding the first tree that would continue to grow and grow, high enough to nearly touch the clouds above. The everliving tree, it would be named as eventually.

Free from the chains of their draconic masters after a successful uprising, the slave races began to spread across Valsheria to find their new homes. Here is where we will focus on the elves.

The initial group found their way to the everliving tree, and one claimed that it's shade would keep them hidden and protected from any dangers. A large group agreed, though others decided it safer to venture further north for more suitable means of protection and a place to call home. Those that remained on the forest would be called the Sylvan.

Another group would split upon finding a grouping of mountains with deep, labyrinthian tunnels within. In those tunnels were pockets of strange magical energies that resonated with many of those that had traveled there. Wanting to learn more of these magicks, many of them stayed. These would be the Lunari.

The last would be the Solari - the remaining elves that traveled even further north to the snowy fields near the edge of the world. Here they found hot springs that would offer them warmth and protection from the cold, as well as more fauna than they could have anticipated thriving in the assumed wasteland.

--

Khaalida is one of the Lunari, a group of elves that would adapt to living underground and surrounded by magical leylines. Unlike many of the races of Valsheria, the Lunari are not inclined to wage war, and much prefer to keep to themselves and the study of the world around them, as well as the magics they would learn to harness inside themselves from the pockets of magic they had found initially.

Born upon a thaumaturgy (wind) place of power and imbued with golden leylines, Khaalida went in the complete opposite direction of her bright glowing appearance and chose to focus on the study of Occultism (shadow magic) under the tutelage of Magister Golthanis. Easily the most intense and no-nonsense of the magisters, Golthanis strove for nothing but perfection from his students, and Khaalida made sure to never disappoint. And after honing her abilities, moved on to learning Arcanism - the unique ability of Lunari warriors that allows them to create weapons from their elemental abilities. Khaalida, continuing with her chosen element and the associations of death along with them, made her weapon of choice a shadowy reaper's scythe.

When she eventually learned all she needed from the magister and the thousands of tomes she read along the way, Khaalida's desire to learn more and grow stronger encouraged her to venture out of Moon's Refuge and into the vast, dangerous world that was the rest of Valsheria. She went on the hunt for artifacts that could aid her in her pursuit of power (and if they didn't, she would simply bring them back to Moon's Refuge for the growing collection the Lunari had stored away), and searched for other occultists that could teach her what she had not yet learned.

Along the way she met a strange, masked man only known as Dark Wind. After some prodding and seeing the potential in her, he taught Khaalida how to raise the dead and cheat death itself, making her all the more stronger. Their relationship was business-like, with a mutual understanding that they were teacher and student and learning was the only truly important thing. Though both Khaalida and Dark Wind did care for one another by the time their lessons finished and they parted ways, it would be a cold day in hell that either of them ever admitted as much - especially to one another.

For centuries Khaalida continued her training, joining with various groups and then departing once their artifact hunting was finished. Her vast knowledge often aided those of the shorter-lived races, and they would seek her for advice and to appraise items in exchange for any knowledge or access to other pertinent items used to achieve her desire for power. Eventually, she would gather a group of her own - the most rag tag bunch anyone ever knew, but ones she trusted with her life: Trixi, the Fawn with knowledge of the land and how well to travel it. Beast Breaker, the Orc who could take a punch as well as he could throw one, and Silvyrs, her long time friend from Moon's Refuge who often questioned their friendship strictly because Khaalida was impossible to read and never truly expressed how she felt about him - or anyone else, really.

Unfortunately, Khaalida's journey across Valsheria would not last forever, not with the threat of the Spirit Elves worming their way closer to her homeland. The spirit elves were a small band of former Lunari (one of which was Khaalida's former teacher, Golthanis), who had been so corrupted by their own desire for power and the magics of the nearby Gloomwood that they had twisted into hideous abominations who only desired more. More power, more magic, more to join their cause. Khaalida, knowing her own weakness and hunger for more than she had, reluctantly retreated to Moon's Refuge, safe under the watchful eye of their powerful Chancellor Dwyn. Here, she began to study the other schools of magic she was allowed, hoping to become strong enough to take Magister Golthanis' place as Magister.
